Happy September! My first design post of the month is actually a hybrid food/design post. That’s what my blog is all about, so I feel like this is fitting. I found a recipe for homemade pasta–squid ink striped ravioli, to be exact. The dark black and the bright pop from the yellow made this photo sing. I’m in love with the simple design of the pasta.
Stripes are such a common design element. I love the great effect that a thin line (or a super thick, 10 point line) can have on a design. Is it super nerdy that when I typed that, my first thought was “I wonder how many points thick the stripes on the ravioli are”? Yes? Okay. Anyways.
My love for stripes (which is definitely echoed in my closet – I have six black and white striped shirts, and that doesn’t even include the colorful striped shirts) comes through in the pieces that I design. It’s also probably why I love to make layered desserts so much. I’m always down for a trifle, preferably in a glass bowl so I can make the stripes/layers as perfect as possible. I love icebox cakes where all of the layers are exposed when you cut into the cake.
