Have you ever eaten something or somewhere that changed everything for you? I’ve had that experience several times. Pizza? Napolese. Biscuits? Popeyes (I know). Brunch? Cafe Patachou. There are many more that apply to me, but in the realm of dessert, Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington, D.C. wins.
My family went to Old Ebbitt because of its close proximity to the White House. It was almost close enough for us to see the big, white building. The oysters were great. The shrimp were great. My fried oyster stew was delicious, and because the Cherry Blossom Festival was going on when we were in D.C., I had a salad with goat cheese, apples and a sweet cherry vinaigrette. But the real star of the show was the dessert that was shared between the five of us–a cappuccino-soaked fudgy, warm brownie served with vanilla ice cream and a mountain of whipped cream. As a self-professed coffee addict, this was the perfect dessert for me. I love cappuccino, I love brownies, and of course, I love ice cream. There was nothing to complain about, except for the fact that I had to share it.
What’s the best dessert you’ve eaten?
